The Masons’ passion for sailing and history leads them to make films as a way of sharing their sailing adventures with others. The Northwest will be a stepping-stone to their sailing voyage round the world, full of adventure and history. This film will retrace the adventures and exploration of early explorers and give the audience the opportunity to experience the history and beauty of the Pacific Northwest .

The whole world was searching for a northwest passage to bypass Cape Horn and traveling around the entire continent. In their search for the passage the early explorers discovered a land of unparalleled beauty and riches.  “Making of” is a glimpse into the personalities, equipment and techniques that will craft “The Northwest”.

The film crew took advantage of a golden opportunity when the Tall Ships visited Vancouver Island in June of 2005 to film ships from as far away as Mexico , Russia including many Canadian and U.S. sailing ships too.  Mason Films was treated to a front row seat aboard the privateer Lynx filming as the Tall Ships arrived in Victoria Harbour We were able to shoot many scenes of historic sailing ships in action that will be used in the feature film.
